Green Thumb gardening classes

The Dane County University of Wisconsin-Extension Horticulture Program will be offering classes for home and community gardeners in the spring of 2016.

The “Green Thumb Gardening” class series will be taught by UW-Extension educators, specialists, and local horticulture experts who offer in-depth and accessible gardening information geared towards everyone from the novice to the experienced gardener. Whether building healthy soil to controlling pests or producing a bountiful vegetable harvest, this gardening class series will give the practical knowledge to keep home gardens thriving!

Classes will be held Thursdays, 6:30 – 9:00 pm, February 25 – April 14, 2016 at the Dane County UW-Extension office (5201 Fen Oak Drive, Madison WI 53718). Register for the entire class series at a discounted price or customize your education by registering for the classes of your choice.

USH 51 & Cottage Grove update

WisDOT is completing modifications to the US 51 traffic staging to allow the southbound entrance ramp from Cottage Grove Road to reopen this Friday (December 3rd). The new temporary configuration shifts mainline US 51 traffic east to provide a separate extended merge lane for the southbound entrance ramp traffic.

We anticipate this configuration to be in place until June 2016. At that time the ramp will be closed again to complete new US 51 paving and removal of the temporary pavements. Once complete and the final connections are made, the ramps will be reopened in their final condition as a separate ramp bridge and exclusive entrance ramp merge lane. The project is on schedule to be completed in the fall of 2016.

Proposed mining ordinance

From our Alder, Denise DeMarb- Please join me on November 30th, at 7PM at the East District Police Station, where Assistant City Attorney John Strange, and Zoning Administrator Matt Tucker will discuss the City’s proposed mining ordinance. This discussion will include types of conditions that the City could include in either a license or mining agreement. (Mining ordinances cover quarries)

I understand many of you have had concerns/questions about mining/quarry regulations. This meeting is designed to help answer your questions on what this proposed mining ordinance means to you.
